Sammanfattning: The boat life is very popular in Sweden with over 880 000 registered boats. For the safety of the people out at sea the Swedish coast guard is working hard with preventing crime and accidents. Drink-driving at sea is one of the crimes the coast guard works very hard with to prevent and they have gotten extended authorities to do that. The law about drink-driving at sea got sharpened in 2010 which led to a reduced crime rate. The purpose of this study is to look at the boat owners’ standpoint about the sharpened law of drink-drive at sea and why they have the opinion they have. Together with interviews, former research and Jürgen Habermas’ theory about system and lifeworld I have in my study come to the conclusion that the sharpened law of drink-drive at sea is too strict according to the Swedish boat owners. In almost all accidents at sea when alcohol is involved, these are of high alcohol intake. Sharpening the law has effected the boaters who are drinking in a small and responsible amount and is no longer able to enjoy their boat-life as they are used to.
