  1. 1. Fracture simulation with a hyperelastic phase field model

    Master-uppsats, KTH/Hållfasthetslära

    Författare :Adrien Fradet; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Fracture; Phase field modeling; Hyperelasticity; Brott; fasfält-methoden; hyperelasticite;

    Sammanfattning : The phase field method is a versatile tool to study crack initiation and propagation in systems with complex geometries. Based on a variational formulation of the equilibrium equations, the sharp crack topology is regularized by a crack with diffusive edges and the damage is described by a continuous phase field variable. 2. 2. Micro-CT based finite element models for mechanical strength assessment of glass ceramic scaffolds obtained through the robocasting technique

    Master-uppsats, KTH/Hållfasthetslära

    Författare :Gustav Thessén; [2022]
    Nyckelord :µ-CT modelling; phase-field method; bio-glass scaffolds; strength assessment; Mikrotomografi; μ-CT; fasfältsmetoden; bio-glas stödstrukturer; brottgräns;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, micro computed tomography (μ−CT) scans of a bio-glass scaffold produced by the robocasting technique was used to create finite element method (FEM) models with the purpose of determining its mechanical strength. Prior to this, a Matlab script was used to create several simplified geometries of the scaffold in an effort to determine the importance of scaffold design parameters (such as the fiber compenetration between two adjacent printing planes) on the strength of the scaffold. 3. 3. The Investigation of Crack Propagation in Cortical Bone using a Phase Field Fracture Approach

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik

    Författare :Olivia Karlsson; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Cortical Bone; Cortical bone microstructure; Phase field; Phase field fracture approach; Crack propagation; Technology and Engineering;

    Sammanfattning : Human cortical bone tissue is a complex and strong composite material, with the ability to resist damage via slowing, stopping or redirecting propagating cracks. However, the ability is impaired with age. At the microscale, changes are seen both in terms of increased porosity and as changes in local material parameters. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Modeling of Precipitation by Structural Phase-Field Crystal Method

    Master-uppsats, Malmö universitet/Institutionen för materialvetenskap och tillämpad matematik (MTM)

    Författare :Jacob Holmberg-Kasa; [2021]
    Nyckelord :strain-age cracking; SAC; structural phase-field crystal; XPFC; nickel-based alloys; precipitation;

    Sammanfattning : Nickel-based alloys are used in components such gas turbines within the aerospace industry and electric power generation due to its high tensile, rapture and creep strength. Increasing the efficiency of gas turbines are crucial to reduce emissions within the aerospace industry and increasing power gain for electric power generation. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Crack growth based FEM with embedded discontinuities

    Master-uppsats, KTH/Hållfasthetslära

    Författare :David Lindblom; [2021]
    Nyckelord :PUFEM; Fracture Mechanics; J2-plasticity; FEAP; Strong discontinuity; Variational formulation; XFEM; PUFEM; Brottmekanik; J2-plasticitet; FEAP; Diskontinuitet; variationskalkyl;

    Sammanfattning : In recent years there have been a major developments in the computational mechanics community when it comes to modelling of fracture mechanics. There are now several well established numerical methods that are implemented in commercial programs such as: Phase Field Modelling, Enhanced Assumed Strain (EAS), Smeared Crack Methods, Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM) and Partition of Unity Finite Element Method (PUFEM).
