16. Frankia – ett släkte kvävefixerande bakterier : Biodiversitet, förekomst i jord och frö, samt påverkan på tillväxt hos havtorn
Kandidat-uppsats, Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskapSammanfattning : This study aimed to describe the biodiversity of the nitrogen-fixing symbiotic bacteria Frankia, to investigate the occurrence of Frankia in soil and seeds, and finally test the effect of a Frankia symbiosis on growth rate on Sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides) in an experiment. Data from the high-quality ribosomal gene database SILVA was used to reconstruct phylogenetic trees that revealed a genetic diversity in the genus that includes more strains than 16 described species so far. 17. Inhibited surface-thiols in Geobacter sulfurreducens : Mercury uptake and methylation rates
Master-uppsats, Umeå universitet/Kemiska institutionenSammanfattning : Due to daily human (anthropogenic) industrial activity, a lot of elemental mercury (Hg0) has been released to the atmosphere. The mercury can then spread globally, since mercury has the ability to remain atmospheric for up to a year. When mercury deposits, it can end up in anaerobic environments such as sediments and soil. 18. The metagenomes of root nodules in actinorhizal plants : A bioinformatic study of endophytic bacterial communities
Kandidat-uppsats, Umeå universitet/Institutionen för ekologi, miljö och geovetenskapSammanfattning : Actinorhizal plants are in symbiosis with the nitrogen-fixating soil bacterium Frankia, which forms nodules in the plant root. However, several studies also report other endophytic bacteria appearing in the nodules, but their function and interaction with the host plant or Frankia is not yet understood. LÄS MER
19. Effects of wild boar (Sus scrofa) on soil processes and tree growth
Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildningSammanfattning : Wild boars (Sus scrofa) have increased rapidly in population size and home range since their reintroduction to the Swedish fauna. Through their rooting behaviour, the boars can cause great disturbance to the ecosystem. LÄS MER
20. Avloppsslam på åkermark : Analys av långsiktiga effekter på mikrobsamhället och kväveomvandlande mikroorganismer
Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildningSammanfattning : One major environmental challenge is to manage agricultural soil in asustainable way. Since nutrients in the soil are taken away every harvest, there is a need to recycle nutrients back to the soil. One solution is to use sewage sludge as a fertilizer. However, sludge can also contain substances that could potentially be harmful to crops or humans. LÄS MER
