Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Institutionen för kulturgeografi och ekonomisk geografi

Sammanfattning: In order to create non-commercial places in the central city of Gothenburg, locating municipal services on ground floor level has been introduced as a part of the social sustainability dimension. The purpose is to create a vivid community and an including society within the urban development project Masthuggskajen. There is however a limited number of previous research conducted on how proceed with this, which is why this thesis examines how it is done and what role municipal services are assumed to play in the specific project of Masthuggskajen. Semi-structured interviews have been conducted with involved officials of the municipality of Gothenburg and a content analysis has been made of planning documents. By using a theoretical framework of practice theory and time geography, the study finds that even though there is a general mutual understanding among the involved parties, such as the officials of the city of Gothenburg and the land owners that ground floor activity could create vivid life and an including society, it is not necessarily the municipal services that do create this.
