“FAMILJER GÅR SÖNDER FÖR ATT DE INTE FÅR RÄTT HJÄLP I TID” : En kvalitativ studie om väntetider till BUP för barn utifrån ett föräldraperspektiv

Sammanfattning: The aim of the study was to examine the consequences of the long wait to children's psychiatry in Sweden, BUP from a parent's perspective. Four questions were phrased based on the study. The first question introduces the study to why parents have contacted BUP while the second question focuses on how the wait has affected both parents and their children from a parental perspective. The two last questions focus on how the help from other authorities such as social services and school has been and what kind of improvement the parents feel needs to happen while waiting for help from BUP. Eight qualitative semistructured interviews were implemented where five of them were executed digitally through conversations tool Zoom and three of them were executed in writing with the possibility to ask supplementary questions. The participants were found via a closed Facebook-group that aims to parents with children who deal with different difficulties in their wellbeing. We shared a post about participating in our study in the group. Two of the participants were reached out through the group. The empirical data has been analyzed based on previous research and ecological of human development. Based on the results from the study the most common reason for the parents contacting BUP was that either the parents or the school experiences that children are not well and that the parents should contact BUP for help and possibly examination for diagnosis. The waiting to BUP is long and both the child and parents are left feeling unwell when the help is not offered fast enough. The collaboration between BUP, the schools and social services has to improve and avoid putting too much responsibility on the parents.
