Sammanfattning: In 2021 a Swedish Government Official Report, which focused on school libraries was published. It suggested school libraries to be included in systematic quality work, and to be a part of that process was considered valuable. The aim of this master’s thesis is to create and contribute knowledge about how the school library position itself in relation to systematic quality work in compulsory school. It focuses on how management and principals in municipalities evaluate school libraries and what perspectives there are concerning systematic quality work in the context of the school library. In order to do this a survey was sent to 90 municipality organisers and their school managers. 31 participated in the survey and ten of the survey respondents were included in a following interview study. The theoretical approach includes both Evert Vedung’s understanding of evaluation theory as well as Barbara Czarniawska’s understanding of how ideas are transferred within and between organisations. The main conclusions are that a majority of the respondents consider the school library to be a part of systematic quality work and evaluated as a part of this process. Results from the survey show a lower number who considered the school library to be a part of systematic quality work. There are no respondents who evaluates the school library as a part of systematic quality work within management, but a few respondents state there are principals who conduct it. Results from the survey show a higher number, both principals and management, who include school libraries in systematic quality work. Findings also indicate that the issue is unprioritized by municipalities and methods on how to evaluate the school library would benefit the process.
