Sammanfattning: Abstract The aviation industry is responsible for about 2% of the world's total CO 2 emissions, and this number is expected to grow due to expected increases in traffic. The motive of this project was to design parts of an environmentally friendly aircraft. The result was a sailplane with an electric engine, driven by rechargeable batteries. A high speed PM brushless engine was chosen and its performance was simulated. Using XFLR5, airfoils were analyzed and chosen for the main wing. The wing was designed along with horizontal stabilizer and tail to decide the sailplanes glide ratio. The engine had enough power, 55kW, for very high altitudes. Two battery systems were chosen, one light and one heavier. The lighter battery system managed to provide 18 minutes of engine time. The heavier provide a total of 28 minutes. The sailplane glide ratio is estimated to be 127.
