Fyndsamling av arkeologiskt material

Sammanfattning: Museum collections (Swedish Fyndsamling) have increased in both quantity and with time. In the second half of the 20th century, this has been referred to as the creation of an "archeological find mountain" (Swedish "Fyndberg"). The reason for this is largely due to a change in the law when finds from before 1850, ancient finds, should be preserved. Furthermore, there was a change in the regulations in 1976 when the management of finds collections was transferred from the National Heritage Board (Riksantikvarieambetet) to the County Administrative Board (Lansstyrelsen). This meant that more finds material was accumulated in the museum storages which resulted in an increased workload for archeologists. The County Council was given the responsibility for decision of possible culling. Selection for thinning may have consequences for future research in the long term.
