Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Socialhögskolan

Sammanfattning: The aim of this study is to contribute to the understanding of honor-related violence and oppression by analyzing how women describe their experiences of this in autobiographical books. Labeling theory and stigmatization theory was used as the theoretical framework applied to the analysis. Based on our analysis, the study shows that there is a pattern of shame and stigmatization that is based on norm-breaking behavior and actions. The cultural norms and values are also seen as a cause of honor-related violence and oppression. This is because the men want to maintain their social status, which is of importance to the collective. In order to maintain standards of honor, the men practice physical, psychological and sexual violence. Social control has been shown to be a large part of psychological violence, where women are limited and controlled in their everyday life. Furthermore, the study shows that Swedish society contributes to the stigmatization of honor-related violence and oppression. Keywords: Honor-related violence, shame, social control, stigmatization, Sweden.
