Sammanfattning: On the 19 of October 2004 two people in Linköping, Sweden were murdered. Police secured DNA from the perpetrator, however it could not further the investigation since the DNA was not in the police registry. The case remained cold until 2020 when a new method of ancestral DNA was used, referred to as IGG. The method was previously tested in the USA and solved plenty of cold cases. The double homicide in Linköping had been cold for 16 years until a genealogist started to cooperate with the police. The police tracked the perpetrator down through DNA uploaded to family tree websites, and he was arrested. The aim of this essay is to describe the discourse regarding the use of investigative genetic genealogy, as well as how the eventual infringement of personal integrity is described. IMY, The Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection's, has forbidden usage of this method, on the grounds that it contravenes the laws about privacy and processing of data. A discourse analysis is used to answer the research questions, based on information from news articles. The majority of articles emphasize that using IGG has societal benefits. Police, prosecutors and inhabitants consider IGG an effective tool and a new opportunity for investigations. The amount of articles that concern societal benefits outnumber the ones mentioning integrity. The political interest is topical and a biometrical investigation is ongoing, deciding whether the method will be accepted again or not. Previous research and the results indicate that there is an ongoing debate surrounding IGG with regards to integrity. Many supporters of the method put their faith in the ongoing investigation due to the method's effectiveness. Therefore, the results of the biometric investigation will be highly relevant and interesting for the future use of IGG, when it is presented on the 20 of June 2023.
