På jakt efter en jämställd filmindustri

Sammanfattning: This thesis examines the gender balance in Swedish films through the interaction between same-sex characters in front of the camera and the gender balance in creative key roles behind the camera. By analyzing 11 award winning Swedish films using a measuring tool presented in a study from 2015, the results show that neither Swedish films or Swedish film productions can be considered gender balanced. Differences are observable in the same-sex interaction and the analysis of key creative roles reveal an overrepresentation of men. These imbalances have consequences for Swedish society as films play a significant role in the shaping of social norms and attitudes. The lack of gender balance in Swedish films can reinforce patriarchal norms and hierarchies and consequently limit opportunities for women in the industry. Therefore, this essay encourages changes within the Swedish film industry and society as a whole to achieve full equality between men and women. By addressing imbalances, creating equal opportunities for both sexes in key creative roles behind the scenes and implementing a balanced and diverse representation on screen, the Swedish film industry can lead the way to a more equal society.
