Sammanfattning: In Sweden, the real estate agent plays the role of an unbiased intermediary, which sets it apart from many other European countries. However, there are differences in the real estate agent's role as an intermediary in neighboring Denmark. This qualitative study aims to investigate the reasons behind these differences in the two Scandinavian countries and identify transaction costs based on the different roles of the real estate agent. The study will gather information about each country through various sources, including comparative studies, relevant laws, and international comparisons. Additionally, four semi-structured interviews will be conducted with knowledgeable representatives from each country to gain further insights on the topic. The study's primary findings indicate that the consumer protection laws in Sweden and Denmark are developed from different perspectives. In Sweden, consumer protection laws aim to equally protect both parties involved in the mediation process. In contrast, Denmark's consumer protection laws place a greater emphasis on protecting the buyer. Another reason for the differences in the two countries could be Denmark's potential influence from other European nations, such as Germany and Great Britain.
