Utilizing Confusion to Increase Performance in Learning Situations

Sammanfattning: Confusion is a common state while individuals are attempting to obtain new knowledge. In this research report we have investigated if there is previous research which shows a positive correlation between confusion and learning, and how confusion can be induced in a learning situation. A literature study was conducted, and resulted in the following: (1) confusion can be induced by contradictory statements, (2) individuals who experience a state of confusion while in a learning situation and resolves said confusion are expected to increase their theoretical knowledge and (3) incorrectly answering theoretical questions on a specific topic leads to deeper knowledge. Additionally, a prototype was constructed off of the research findings and applied on a digital learning platform to illustrate how confusion can be used in a learning situation.
