Sammanfattning: This evaluation field study aims to study the LM International/Läkarmissionens and Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Kenya’s project against Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) in southwestern Kenya, a crime against human rights and a severe problem in parts of Kenya. The laws against FGM/C have had limited effect in the region, so the groundwork is more important than ever. The opportunities to inspire behavioral changes in individuals are many but still not enough. The question of issue is what effect the project against FGM/C in the implementing region has had. The interviews were executed at the grassroots level with focus groups in addition to stakeholders from sub-county, county, and national levels. Together with the implementing organization ADRA and the donor organization LM International/Läkarmissionen. Based on the interviews, it’s possible to summarize and say that many things have become better, but there is still a lot left to do, and the methods to end FGM/C must change, as the culture and exucation around FGM/C have changed over time. The outcome of this field evaluation study shows that the structures in the society of Kenya and the possibilities to get information and education down to the grassroots level is a big challenge, as well as changing cultural norms. Nevertheless, the change is possible if the work becomes more multisectoral, with long-term purpose, and works with all social structures: bottom-up and top-down within the Kenyan society.
