Exploring the effectiveness of the teach-back method on health literacy and self-care of patients with chronic disease : A descriptive literature review

Sammanfattning: Aim: To describe the effectiveness of teach back method in improving health literacy and self-care of patients with chronic diseases.Method: This review is a descriptive literature review. The authors used PubMed and Cinahl databases to search the literature on quantitative research and then selected 10 articles to summarize them according to the research objectives and research questions.Results: Through the summary and analysis of ten articles, the authors found that the teach back method is effective in improving the health literacy and self-care of patients with chronic diseases. The subjects included patients with diabetes, heart failure, hepatitis B and breast cancer. Among them, six articles have found that using the teach back method to improve the health literacy of patients with chronic diseases is more effective than ordinary methods. There are also six articles have found that the teach back method can improve the self-care of patients with chronic diseases.Conclusion: The teach-back method is an effective educational method and can be widely used in clinical nursing to improve health literacy and self-care for patients with chronic diseases.Keywords: teach back method, health literacy, self-care, chronic disease
