Sammanfattning: Policing against illegal goods distributed via mail is made more difficult by regulations by law, which are made to prevent and counteract crime. Due to the current postal law, it appears that postal staff are not allowed to contact the police regarding illegal shipments. In an investigation from 2020, a proposal has been stated regarding a new postal law where the proposal is to remove the postal staff's duty of confidentiality. The aim of this study is to examine the shortcomings and challenges of policing with illegal trade distributed through the mail. The study is based on interviews with eight police officers and the collected data was evaluated with a thematic analysis. The results show that postal staff often contact the police regarding illegal shipments, even though it is against the postal law. All respondents have negative thoughts regarding today's postal law and believe that the postal act is old and does not reflect today's society. The respondents in this study are very positive about the proposal of the new postal act. If the new postal act comes into force, postal companies and the police will be able to cooperate, as well as simplify policing against illegal items sent via parcels. The result is then analyzed using routine activity theory and problem-oriented police work.
