Sammanfattning: For several years there has been a general consensus on the relationship between ideology and European integration, where most researchers have found that the parties positioning on the right-left scale affects its attitude toward European integration. However, Christopher Prosser shows that parties positions on European integration are mainly influenced by a social "liberal-conservative" dimension, with the liberal end facing pro-integration and the conservative end a anti-integration. The purpose of this study is to investigate whether liberalism and conservatism structure some of the Swedish parties positions to the establishment of the European Social Pillar. To answer this purpose, I have two questions: What are the main arguments presented by the Liberals, the Moderates, the Social Democrats and the Swedish Democrats for the opposition to the establishment of a European Social Pillar in the debates of the EU Council? and, Is it possible to identify liberalism and conservatism in the Liberals, the Moderates, the Social Democrats and the Swedish Democrats arguments in the debates of the EU Council? The result shows that Liberalism and Conservatism to some extent structure positions for the establishment of the Social Pillar.
