Sammanfattning: The Covid-19-pandemic has put public health into a large risk. In December 2020, an evaluation of the measures taken in Sweden to deal with the Covid-19 pandemic was published. It pointed out that the elderly care had not received the necessary resources to protect the elderly who are the most vulnerable in the population. The majority of previous research conducted during the Covid-19 pandemic has focused on the healthcare situation abroad. Few studies have been conducted in Sweden and even fewer focused on the elderly care. The aim of this study is to examine the experiences of the caregivers working in residential care during the Covid-19 pandemic. In this study we used theoretical models which examine psychosocial work environments, stress as well as social responsiveness and burnout. The work applied a qualitative approach and used a thematic analysis. The data was collected through semi-structured interviews with assistant nurses working in three municipalities in Västra Götaland, Sweden. The result showed that the participants experienced an increased workload and that they felt inadequate towards the elderlycare receivers. To handle their situation the social support within the colleagues had a vital function. The participants experienced a limited social life and a big concern about carrying the infection.
