  1. 1. Feeding Behaviour in Loggerhead Sea Turtles (Caretta caretta) : Collection of Movement Data Representative of Feeding Events

    Master-uppsats, Linköpings universitet/Institutionen för fysik, kemi och biologi

    Författare :Marie Ulrich; [2019]
    Nyckelord :Clams; Crabs; Data logger; Calcium; Loggerhead; VeDBA; feeding behaviour;

    Sammanfattning : With the different threats sea turtles are currently facing, such as habitat reduction and pollution, increase of fishing and harvesting of aquatic resources by Humans, or invasive species, it is important to learn as much as possible about their biology and behaviour in order to ensure the success of conservation programs. In this study, loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) feeding behaviour duration as well as energy expenditure approximation during a feeding event were tested and compared using two different types of food: green shore crabs (Carcinus maenas) or Japanese clam (Ruditapes phillipinarum) or Venus clams (Chamelea gallina). 2. 2. Can the native shore crabs (Carcinus maenas) become a barrier to the invasion of the round goby (Neogobius melanostomus) in Öresund, southern Baltic Sea?

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Examensarbeten i biologi

    Författare :Nikolaos Papagiannopoulos; [2018]
    Nyckelord :Biology and Life Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The round goby (Neogobius melanostomus) is a non-indigenous species to the Baltic Sea that has drawn the attention of many researchers in the last decade due to its rapid spreading and its impact on the local fauna. With recent concerns about the dispersal of the round goby towards the North Sea, the aim of this study was to determine if the native shore crab could compete with the invaders and prevent their advance. 3. 3. Causes of trends in abundance of mesopredators in the Kattegat Sea

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. Of Aquatic Resources

    Författare :Karla Rudnicki; [2018]
    Nyckelord :shore crab; atlantic cod; mesopredator; Vendelsöarna; temperature; Ringhals; nuclear power plant;

    Sammanfattning : It has come to attention that there is a mesopredator release effect present in the Kattegat Sea (northern Europe, between Sweden and Denmark). The areas in focus here are Ringhals, a nuclear power plant zone, and Vendelsöarna, a undisturbed reference area. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Phenotypic plasticity of blue mussels under threat from different predators

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildning

    Författare :Jerker Melin; [2017]
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : My study confirms that there are phenotypic plastic traits in blue mussels (Mytilus edulis) inresponse to predatory pressure from shore crabs (Carcinus maenas) and sea stars (Asteriasrubens) and a combination of them. Blue mussels can sense predators by olfactory cues fromthe predators themselves, or by alarm cues from attacked conspecifics, and then developinducible defences. LÄS MER
