  1. 1. Diving Deep: Seabird foraging tactics and local prey field

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. Of Aquatic Resources

    Författare :Elin Andersson Sjöholm; [2024]
    Nyckelord :Common Guillemot; Uria aalge; Optimal Foraging theory; Hydroacoustic data; resource selection;

    Sammanfattning : Foragers in patchy environments need to decide what patches to use and how to allocate their time between them. Optimal foraging theory describes these choices through the relationship between energy expenditure and energy gain. LÄS MER

  2. 2. African elephants' effect on the temporal use of elephant highway by predator and prey. Makgadikgadi Pans National Park.

    Master-uppsats, Göteborgs universitet / Institutionen för biologi och miljövetenskap

    Författare :Rebecka Relfsson; [2023-08-18]
    Nyckelord :African savanna elephant; elephant highways; interspecies interactions; predation avoidance; predator-prey interaction; temporal activity;

    Sammanfattning : African savanna elephants (Loxondonta africana) are the world’s largest land-mammal and are considered a keystone species. The effect they have on vegetation and their environment is well known, but their effect on other animal species is less studied. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Estimating historic ranges of extinct scavenging birds from North America during the late Pleistocene using co-occurrence data from the fossil record

    Master-uppsats, Göteborgs universitet / Institutionen för biologi och miljövetenskap

    Författare :Melissa Miranda; [2023-06-30]
    Nyckelord :Scavenging birds; Vultures; Co-occurrence Data; Range Estimates; Spatial Autoregressive Models; Co-extinction;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of my study was to estimate and compare the historic range of nine scavenging birds from North America that went jointly extinct with their mammalian megafaunal prey in the Late Pleistocene. Although the severity and timing of their co-extinction are strongly correlated, there has been little analytical support in providing estimates for the possible geographic distribution of scavenging birds prior to the extinction event. 4. 4. Hawk-kite as a scaring method for avian pests in Kenyan rice fields

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Ecology

    Författare :Linnea Hollsten; [2023]
    Nyckelord :bird; crop; damage mitigation; pest control; repellent;

    Sammanfattning : The human population is increasing globally, and so are the human-wildlife interactions and conservation conflicts. One source of conservation conflict is the crop damage caused by wildlife. Crop damage is negatively affecting farmers, but also the wildlife due to lethal methods used to reduce the damage. LÄS MER

  5. 5. The foraging distribution of Cape gannets in relation to Addo Elephant National Park Marine Protected Area

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Wildlife, Fish and Environmental Studies

    Författare :Pelagia Maria Tsousi; [2023]
    Nyckelord :cape gannets; morus capensis; marine Protected Areas; addo Elephant National Park Marine Protected Area; foraging distribution;

    Sammanfattning : Seabirds are considered to be the sentinels of the ocean, as they are able to locate their prey in spite of the great heterogeneity of the marine environment. During the breeding season, these central-place foragers not only need to find prey to maintain themselves but also to feed their young. LÄS MER
