1. An Introduction to Symmetry Protected Topological Phases
Kandidat-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Teoretisk fysikSammanfattning : In this thesis, we aim to display characteristics of symmetry protected topological phases within quantum mechanics (QM). Building on well known aspects of QM, we relate the formalism to basic group representation theory, and review the connection between projective symmetries and protected vacuum degeneracies. LÄS MER
2. Majorana bound states in chains of interacting quantum dots
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Fasta tillståndets fysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/NanoLund: Centre for NanoscienceSammanfattning : This thesis concerns the creation of Majorana bound states (MBSs) -- a type of condensed matter excitations theorized to have exotic and technologically valuable properties. In particular, they could be used to store and manipulate quantum information in a protected way, forming the building blocks of a topological quantum computer. LÄS MER
3. Transversal Construction of Topological Gates on Multiqubit Quantum Codes
Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/MaterialteoriSammanfattning : We study the possibility of constructing quantum gates using topological phases, which originate from local SU(2) evolution of entangled multiqubit systems. For this purpose, logical codewords using two-, three- and nine-qubit entangled states are defined and possible implementations of topological gates on these codes, are examined. LÄS MER
4. Topological Photonic Lattices
Master-uppsats, KTH/Tillämpad fysikSammanfattning : Topological Photonics is a rapidly growing field which explores the ideas of topological invariants adapted from condensed matter physics to optical systems. Thanks to integrated photonics platforms, the evolution of light in nanoscale photonic lattices can enable direct measurement of topological properties of the band-structure. LÄS MER
5. Wannier Functions in non-Hermitian Systems
Master-uppsats, KTH/FysikSammanfattning : The scope of this thesis is analyzing and characterizing certain gapless states in tight-binding non-Hermitian systems. We start by providing a pedagogical introduction to tight-binding theory, topological phases of matter, Wannier functions as real-space duals of Bloch functions and their properties, non-Hermitian systems and associated differences from standard Hermitian systems.
