Framställningar av ensamkommande barn - En postkolonial analys av tidningsartiklar från Aftonbladet

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Socialhögskolan

Sammanfattning: The aim of this study was to create an understanding of how Aftonbladet, one of Sweden's biggest newspaper, describes unaccompanied asylum-seeking children in the years of 2015 and 2018. Another aim was to analyze differences and similarities in the descriptions between these two years. The study was based on a qualitative content analysis of 91 articles published in Aftonbladet year 2015 and 2018. Social constructive and postcolonial theory was used to analyze the articles. The result shows that media describes unaccompanied children, both 2015 and 2018, as victims, burden, “the others,” and established in the Swedish society. Minor differences were shown between the year 2015 and 2018. The unaccompanied children were described as burden to a greater extent in 2015 than 2018. Unaccompanied children were mentioned in a political context in most of the articles in year 2018, which created more distanced descriptions of the unaccompanied children compared to 2015. In the year 2015 more descriptions about the unaccompanied children focusing on their life situation were found. The conclusion of the study shows that media creates an “us” referring to the Swedish population and describes the unaccompanied children as “them” to mark them as outside of the society.
