Sammanfattning: ABSTRACT In today’s increasingly competitive global market it’s important for small to medium sized enterprises to be effective enough to be able to outperform their competitors. Lean manufacturing is a well-established philosophy on how to achieve a more efficient production. Lean was developed by Toyota and has its main focus on both trying to identifying what activities in a productions process that adds value and how to eliminate non value adding activities, also known as waste. Bigger enterprises usually has sufficient financial resources to afford a Lean implementation and by doing so increasing their efficiency. In the meanwhile, small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) might lack both financial resources and know-how and instead has to relay on experience. Some SMEs might also feel that they are satisfied with the situation they are currently in and there might not be an initiative to change. This report will use Lean concepts such as Value stream mapping and 5S and try to use them in order to achieve higher efficiency in a small to medium sized manufacturing enterprise. To show this a case study is conducted where the concepts, in theory, might have positive results on the efficiency of the manufacturing line of a certain product family.
