Att mäta utvecklingen för teknik- och forskningsbaserade företag (NTBF) - En studie i forskningsparken Ideon.

Sammanfattning: This master thesis work comprises 20 academic credits (20 weeks) and was carried out in a time period beginning autumn 2004 ending early 2005 at the department of Industrial Management and Logistics under the division of Production Management at Lund Institute of Technology (LTH) in cooperation with IdeonCenter AB. The problem being investigated was how to measure the development of the new technologybased firms (NTBF) in Ideon Science Park (Lund, Sweden). The aim was to identify areas important to the development of NTBFs and to suggest relevant measures to aid IdeonCenter in their strategic work. Through a case study with four companies and a survey comprising 135 NTBFs (30% replied) in Ideon Science Park eight areas important to the development of the NTBFs were identified and also thought possible to measure: • Formal research cooperation with the university. • Flexible leases which enable change of premises. • The image of being located in the science park. • Informal exchange of experiences with other firms in the science park. • Market and customer relations. • Venture capital. • Patents. • Partnerships and strategic alliances. From the perspective of IdeonCenter, interesting, relevant and accessible measures are being discussed and suggested which result in the following: • The share of the NTBFs in the science park which have formal research cooperation with the university. • The number of NTBFs in the science park wishing to change premises. • The number of visitors to Ideons homepage. • The number of downloads of the newsletter Ideon@ktuellt. • The number of pressreleases. • The number of references to “Ideon” in written media. • The number of firms located in the science park with which the NTBFs informally share experiences. • The traffic in the 286-series. • The number of overseas calls placed by the NTBFs. • The share of NTBFs in the science park which have had or have access to venture capital. • The number of granted patents for the NTBFs. • The number of patents pending for the NTBFs. • The share of NTBFs in the science park which have evolved partnerships and strategic alliances. • The share of NTBFs in the science park which have reached a business platform. For the above mentioned pros and cons, methods for information collection as well as an estimation of the cost of implementation are being discussed. To some of them, trial measurements are being carried out.
