Detta är en Uppsats för yrkesexamina på grundnivå från Malmö universitet/Lärande och samhälle

Sammanfattning: Women’s history, and how it is depicted, projects how history as well as gender and its norms are viewed, interpreted and reproduced. This overview aims to map the research regarding how women has been depicted in historiography and in museum exhibitions. To get an overview of the field, three areas of female depiction shall be focused on. These areas are the following: Space, Context and Language. These were subsequently applied to our two main areas of research, how women's history has been depicted in history researchand in museum exhibitions. In order to conduct this research, two databases were used: Libsearch and Kvinnsam. Libsearch which is a collective database of Malmö University and Kvinnsam a database that focus on gender studies. The collected material was then supplemented with material given to us by our mentor. Our conducted research led us to the conclusion that, depending on the perspective the research has, women are depicted in numerous ways. Though, throughout the different perspectives, women are always depicted as subordinate to men. Museums depiction of women are relatively good regarding space. Context and language are however strongly affected by gender norms which limit the ways women are depicted.
