Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Socialhögskolan

Sammanfattning: This study aims to explore social workers' perceptions of their own capacity to work with children exposed to violence, focusing on maintaining the child's well-being and safety. The study examines the opportunities and limitations within their area of work, considering factors like consent, national laws and professional experience. The study employed qualitative methods to explore social workers' experiences with children exposed to violence. Participants were recruited purposely both direct and indirect via email and different social media platforms, and semi-structured interviews were performed. Data gathered were then analyzed thematically, revealing insights into child welfare and legal impacts. In the concluding discussion, we will address how social workers describe their experiences working with children exposed to violence, focusing on securing the child's well-being and safety, and explore the opportunities and limitations within their area of action. Respondents underscored the weight of responsibility and insufficiency, highlighting the necessity of relying on intuition in decision-making. Respondents also point out exhaustion due to emotional stress, how the experience of stigma and lack of consent can cause challenges, limiting assistance to children. These insights shed light on complexities within social work and child welfare practices.
