Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för kulturvård

Sammanfattning: The left garden of Norrbacka 1, today Domprostegården 5:1, is an interesting place where plants of older varieties may be found. It´s important that places like this will be noticed so the society does not miss out on historical knowledge and plants that can matter to maintain biodiversity. This study aims to clarify what different methods can produce for knowledge. Norrbacka 1 and the remaining garden may contain cultural values or other significance values for conservation. Various archives are studied to get clarity on the history for the place, what time the origin of the garden can be traced to and who lived at Norrbacka 1. The archival are also studied to produce knowledge of the design and plant content of the garden. Inventory of the garden is preformed where plants are identified and suggestions for further research of varietal determination is recommended to best evaluate the remains of the garden, in a cultural conservation perspective and conservation for biological diversity. An interview with Ingela Börjesson, daughter of Olof and Dagmar Börjesson owner of Norrbacka 1 at the end of the 20th, leads to a personal story linked to the place where stories about her childhood and memories that touch the garden are recounted. The author refers to various laws and agreements in which the laws are also set to value the garden in a conservation perspective. The garden has been shown to have clear traces of later 19th century and mid 20th century where a fenced form of the garden was planted with including Betula pubescens, Acer platanoides and Prunus avium that was a recommendation for the time. The division of the garden is visible, despite its thickness, as the fruit trees of Malus domestica are placed in the southeastern part of the garden and the berry bushes of Ribesuva-crispa and Ribes nigrum are found in the northern part, where, according to Ingela Börjesson, there is also reported to have been potato cultivation in this area.
