Sammanfattning: Abstract   Ida Lindqvist  Visual ergonomics – challenges and opportunities to develop sustainable visual work environment.  Student Master Thesis in Occupational Health Science, University of Gävle.   Purpose To investigate and describe expert’s perceptions of challenges and opportunities to develop sustainable visual work environment.    Method                                                                                                                  A qualitative study, based on fourteen semi-structured interviews with nine female and five male experts. Inductive phenomenographic research method was used to investigate similarities and differences in perceptions of experts within the field of visual ergonomics.   Main results                                                                                                        Good visual ergonomics is hindered by challenges such as lack of knowledge, lack of collaborations and lack of clarity in responsibility and affiliation. But also, because design is prioritized before function, economic aspects and that the area has low priority in the systematic work environment management. Favorable conditions for sustainable visual work environment can be developed through the dissemination of knowledge, experience, and research. But also, through curiosity and interest, increased accessibility and if requirements are set regarding visual ergonomics.   Conclusion The study shows that there is generally a great deal of ignorance regarding visual ergonomics, but also great curiosity, which through the dissemination of information provides an opportunity to create change. The results also show that increased knowledge is important for creating collaborations, being able to set demands, and making choices that promote the visual work environment. The conclusion is that spreading knowledge is essential, but that knowledge must then be managed and used to develop sustainable visual work environment.
