Sammanfattning: In 2014 people born in the 1940s will be retired. The Swedish labour market is facing a radical change in quantity and experience. We have studied five private companies in Sweden. Our purpose was to explore how these organizations worked with what we have defined as a future key issue – the retirement of people born in the 1940s and what that involves in terms of loss of competence. For our analysis we used Ohlsson & Broomé's theory on different generations and the impact they have on knowledge transfer in organizations. The two concepts proactive and reactive behaviour is important to understand the organizations way of manage trends in the future. We came to the conclusion that all interviewed organizations were both proactive and reactive, depending on what the focus was with regards to their business strategy. Based on the age structure in the organizations, they face different challenges in the future. Since the labour market will change dramatically, the values of the new generation are important for these organizations. They are all aware that they have to address these values in order to attract educated young people.
