Områdetsutveckling i Kalmar - Ny vision för Kalmarsundsparken

Sammanfattning: The coastal city of Kalmar is known as an attractive summer destination, both locally and internationally. The coast has long been included as one of the municipality’s priority goals. In its city development vision, the municipality strives to utilize the coast and take it into consideration in urban planning. On the other hand, Kalmar has a historic character, which is visible through its urban planning, architecture and monuments. The Kalmarsundspark, with its proximity to Kalmar Castle, is located on a historic and valuable land, it is thus regarded as a memory of the Swedish Empire since the 17th century. This work is about putting forward a proposal for the development of Kalmarsundspark in order to make it a hallmark of the city, consequently becoming a point of interest in Kalmar city. Accordingly, the work desires to make the park available and connect it with the castle, the city centre and the nearby recreational areas. This connectivity was about opening new routes to the park, hence our improvement proposal to traffic problems in the area. Another point that has been considered in the new planning, was preserving the unique value of the site and highlighting its history to the public. The fact that the park is near the coast also has its impact on its future use. Therefore, microclimate has been a part of the work with greater emphasis on wind and sea. The method used, besides field visits and analysis, was a literature study to collect relevant information about urban planning. Kalmar city, its history and future vision has also been studied for the purpose of gaining a deeper background. The results presented in this work includes illustration images showing how we think Kalmarsundspark should look like and what activities should be brought in. The aim is that the result can be of benefit to the municipality for future development of the park, and thus the city.
