Sammanfattning: The purpose of this paper has been to examine the leadership in organizations, how it has changed with remote work and the challenges that come with motivating your employees remotely. The theories used for the result, analysis and conclusions are the situational leadership and Herzberg's two-factor theory which together with leadership, remote work and motivation form the frame of reference for this paper. A qualitative method has been used to examine the purpose, where eight managers from different companies were interviewed, who had experience leading colleagues in a remote environment. The result shows that managers have increased employee responsibilities with remote work and that good and clear communication from the leader has played a significant role. The increased responsibility, lack of team spirit in the workplace and difficulties assessing individual performances has led to greater leadership challenges to motivate employees during remote work. In the analysis the situational leadership is discussed where remote work requires more effort from the managers to adapt to the needs of groups and individuals. Challenges creating motivation by the leader are generally greater working remotely, but the degree of motivation is individual and depends on the person's own preference on how they like to work. The conclusion of this research is that managers should adapt their leadership in remote work settings to create the best conditions for performance and cultivate intrinsic motivation among employees.
