Sammanfattning: Cinematography is an essential part of filmmaking. The audience are able to identify with the characters in film much through cinematography. Identification with the protagonist is a necessity to move the narrative forward and capture the interest of the audience. The film You Were Never Really Here relies much more on its cinematography since there is not much dialogue to work with while trying to follow the narrative. This bachelor thesis will take a closer look at the film to analyze the framing and camera angles in chosen scenes. The aim is to analyze how they convey the emotional life of the protagonist Joe through these tools and its possible effects on how the audience can identify with him. The method of this study is film analysis focused on framing and camera angles. Jonathan Cohens theory about identification with media characters contributes to understanding the analysis. The study shows that framing and camera angles play an important role in identification with the protagonist. It also indicates that film techniques in relation to eachother can contribute or complicate identification with the protagonist in different ways.
