Sammanfattning: The purpose of this study has been to perform an ideological positioning of the Sweden Democrats. In order to carry out this study I have chosen to use two separate political dimensions, one sociocultural and one economic. Furthermore, traditional literature and established theories within the field of ideological positioning are used as a theoretical foundation. The study is based on the latest official party documents released by the Sweden Democrats, these include: “principle program”, election manifesto, perception programs and information from the party website where they present definitive opinions on various political issues. An ideology analysis has been applied via a qualitative textual analysis in order to more effectively identify and present an overall picture of the ideological position of the Sweden Democrats according to my political dimensions. My study shows a party with an ideological position that varies depending on the issue at hand. Within the economic dimension my study identifies a party with an ideological home in the middle of the conventional left/right dimension. Within the sociocultural dimension, on the other hand, the Sweden Democrats clearly belong to the ideological right. Thus the Sweden Democrats cannot, given the result of this study, be considered a purely right-wing party.
