Sammanfattning: According to the organisation Maskrosbarn around 500.000 children in Sweden live with a parent or guardian that suffers from mental illness, addiction or subject them to violence. An even number of children live in lower socio-economic brackets of society. Most children in Sweden come in contact with sports in one way or another throughout their childhood. With that in mind the aim of this study was to research the sport movements attitudes and resources are when it comes to children from the form mentioned disadvantaged backgrounds. The method used was a qualitive method where semi-structured interviews were conducted with six different individuals. These individuals all work with in the Swedish sports movement in some way and have relevant insights to this paper.    The result was analyzed through a thematic analysis which resulted in three different main themes; The effects of sports which was then split into two subthemes organized sports and physical activity, the next main theme was the child’s perspective which was split into: barriers and participation. The final main theme was the sport movements current state which was spilt into two subthemes: Barriers and knowledge. The results show that the respondents considered that sports and physical activity had a profound role in children’s lives and that it has specific and relevant impact for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
