Sammanfattning: Abstract Aim The aim of the study was to investigate teachers’ utilization and content of feedback in physical education in upper secondary schools. The purpose was also to explore whether teachers’ usage and content of feedback differed in dance and ball games education. The theoretical questions to be answered were: does the formation of the activity affects given feedback by teachers in sports and health at dance and ball games activities? What types of feedback do teachers in upper secondary school use in dance and ball games activities? What types of aspects are most central in teachers’ given feedback in dance and ball games activities? Method The method used for this study was qualitative observations on four teachers, three women and one man, at three different upper secondary schools all located within Stockholm. Each observation was recorded and supplemented by a voice recorder, which was connected to a mobile phone. The voice recording was done via an app called Röstinspelare. Results The results of the study indicated that the formation of the activity slightly impacted feedback given by the teachers. However, the result showed that the organisation of the activity impacted the most in all four teachers’ repertoires of feedback. Findings also indicated that corrective feedback was dominant in all teachers’ repertoires of feedback, except for one teacher whose repertoire was dominated by general positive feedback in dance. Furthermore, the results indicated a central focus on technical aspects and achievement in every teacher’s feedback in both dance and ball games. Besides, a central focus was also given to tactical aspects in ball games and esthetical aspects in dance activities. Conclusion Findings in this study indicates how important it can be for teachers to be aware of the effects and purpose of feedback in physical education. Also, it is crucial that teachers have knowledge and understanding of how to apply feedback effectively for the different purposes, for either skill teaching or to motivate students to work harder.
