Sammanfattning: The purpose of this essay is to find out if and how people with different cognitive and developmental conditions than a neurotypical adult can experience visual art. I examine this question based on the case study of neurotypical children aged 0–2 years. The questions I ask are: 1. Can one find characteristics of visual artworks that match or are possible to perceive based on a person's cognitive and developmental conditions? 2. How could a person experience visual arts according to their specific cognitive and developmental conditions? The study is based on the theoretical perspectives of developmental psychology and psychological cognitive perspective and is carried out by analyzing three different works of art based on this theory. The results that emerge are, firstly, that yes, it is possible to find characteristics of visual artworks that agree with target groups that have different conditions than a neurotypical adult. Secondly, the experience of the works of art depends on several factors. It is partly about aspects related to the cognitive development, and partly about factors about how the works of art are exhibited. My conclusion from the survey is that the range of culture would both be broadened and gain from also including the perspective of visual arts according to different cognitive and developmental conditions.
