Sammanfattning: The purpose of this master thesis is to evaluate how internal vehicle information in Scania buses and trucks can be used for evaluation of driver performance regarding fuel economy, vehicle wear, traffic safety, emissions and cargo damage. To some extent it was examined whether this information could be used for training the driver to a better driving style. In addition, a prototype for such a system was developed. By first defining what distinguishes a talented driver and how he/she differs from a poor driver, followed by a study of the internal vehicle communication, a system that in real-time gathers and interprets vehicle data could be developed. The resulting system can with reasonably high reliability detect a number of traffic events (such as braking, lane changing or hilltops). At each such event, the driver’s behaviour can be evaluated. Should the driver show a lack in performance, the system can offer tips for better driving. After a completed driving session, a report on driver performance in these events can be generated. Algorithms for driver evaluation were realized in the experimental environment. In addition, an interface for driver interaction and training and a system for generating driving reports were developed.
