Sammanfattning: There is a need for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the transporting sector. With a potential of 3-7 TWh per year, farm based production of biomethane can be a solution for this problem. The small farm based biogas plants have a problem using the produced heat in an efficient way and today 29 % of the biogas is flared or not used. The projects aim was to investigate the technical and economic conditions for small scale biogasplants (with a production smaller then 5-6 GWh/year). The actors connected to building the technical system and selling the biomethane was identified. To analyze the economic conditions further, four different business models was created and analyzed with the business model canvas tool and a SWOT-analysis. A technical system was designed for each business model. The result showed that the technical solutions existed and that there is a market for the equipment and the selling of biomethane. The economic conditions were also good, but today these business models depend on the economic support from the government. This is a problem when making investments, because there is no long term guarantee that the economic support will be the same during the depreciation period. The specific investment costs are lower for biogas plants with a production of 1 GWh/year, but with a smaller plant, 0,5 GWh/year, there are less demands in terms of permissions.
