Sammanfattning: This paper describes socially sustainable tourism development and investigates how it applies to the tourist destination Djurgården. The author wanted to investigate how the definition of social sustainability has developed over time and how attractions located on Djurgården define and work to improve it.  The study is based on a qualitative method and the empirical evidence has been collected through 9 interviews, both physically and through email. The theory introduces the Brundtland report and consists of previous research in social sustainable development and responsible tourism. The method talks about the city of Stockholm and Visit Stockholm's social sustainability work. After that it follows a brief introduction of Djurgården and a more in-depth study of Kungliga Djurgårdens Intressenter, Gröna Lund, Skansen, Vasamuseet, Nordiska museet, Etnografiska and Tekniska museet.  The empirical evidence is analyzed with the already introduced theory/earlier research and the results show that social sustainability as a subject is slowly but surely increasing in popularity. The investigated attractions work with social sustainability through their exhibitions, their employees as well as their visitors.
