Sammanfattning: Introduction: Overweight and obesity in children is a growing global health problem with over 340 million affected children between the ages of 5 and 19. More than 20% of all children of the same age suffer from overweight or obesity in Sweden today. Overweight and obesity can cause a lot of suffering for the child, both physically and psychologically. Healthcare services have great responsibility to inform and support families in the care of their children. Parents play an important role in their children's health and well-being. Their experience with the support and attitudes of the health care professional can affect the outcome for the child. Aim: The aim of the study was to investigate how parents to overweight or obese children experience the support and attitudes of health care professionals. Method: Descriptive design with literature review as method and a qualitative approach. Ten original articles retrieved from the CINAHL and PubMed databases were included. Results: Both positive and negative experiences were reported from the parents. The findings were divided into three main categories. The first category was person-centered care, where parents' experience of the health care professionals working in a person-centred way was identified, as well as experiences that they did not. The second category was the attitude of the health care professional. There, parents' experiences of being offended was identified, but also the experience that the health care professionals had been considerate. The third category was experiences of the organization where parents' positive experiences of definite actions were identified, but also their experience of lack of coordination. Conclusion: A respectful and person-centered approach is fundamental to parents' positive experience of the healthcare professional’s support and attitude. Furthermore, cooperation in the care team is a cornerstone for a functioning organization and continuity, which facilitates person-centered care.
