Sammanfattning: To work with environments outdoors for people, animals and plants is the main topic for the landscapearchitect. On several occasions the work is about public places that is to be in relation with other parts of the town. It is about the activities and the life that take place. The physical environment and the interpretation of it gives possibilities or obstructions for people who moves around or spend time in it.Since public places, parks and places for movement are used in daily life they strongly effect the people who use the places. The concequences of this effect can be positive or negative experiences.A positive example is a passage over a brook on the way to school while a negative one is to be afraid while passing a tunnel when it is dark outside. Other examples of concequences are stress effect from traffic noice or calming environments with twitter of birds. The physical environment is also a part of the total interpretation of a town. It gives the conditions for the life and the activities that take place. A part of the life and the activities are the continuing social relations between people. These relations have different meanings and effect people variously depending on age, physiological and psychological conditions, socioculture and other different factors. The social relations and the conditions for them are indirect effected by the physical environment, it gives the conditions for people to gather or to be parted from each other.In this complex whole the landscapearchitect has the task to give possibilities for a good life by working with the environment. This final thesis consists of two parts. One theoretic and one practic. The principles of part one are used as practice in part II. The first part, the theoretic, is about the town and the physical environment of which it consists and how it can be a part of and effect the social life. This part also discusses different activities in the public environment that is significant for the social life and its progress.Different social activities and their meaning are also to be mentioned. In the final chapter of part I the theory becomes practise for the town Kungälv. Kungälv is the community of which part II discusses. The second part is a basis material for a park plan for the town Kungälv. A park plan discusses the green structure in the community. It is about the places, parks and places for movement and how they should be taken care of and develop. The park plan tells about general strategies for the vegetation, places of culture history, playgrounds and parks, as examples. The material for Kungälv discusses places,parks and places for movement differently. The difference is in the main focus which is a social perspective. The purpose is to produce good situations for the social life in the public environment.The main underlying material for the park plan are questionnaires and interviews with pupils and students, retireds and grown ups from Kungälv.Togehter with other parts in the environment,such as safeness, access, culturehistory,recreation, health and biodiversity the environment will give positive conditions in a social perspective for the inhabitants in Kungälv.
