Varför folkomröstade vi inte om NATO?

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Statsvetenskapliga institutionen

Sammanfattning: There is only one answer to why we did not have a referendum on applying for NATO membership. The changed security situation in Europe and the clearly changed threat against Sweden that has arisen from Russia's invasion of Ukraine have changed political views on Sweden's security. Sweden, which has been publicly neutral and non-aligned, is now choosing a clear side and requesting entry into the NATO defense alliance. The previous defense cooperation has proved to be insufficient, and Swedish politicians are now taking action. A liberal perspective on the individual is being replaced by a more realistic perspective and a collective responsibility for Sweden in political decisions. In my study, which uses hermeneutic and explanatory methods, I respond to this using the Multiple Streams Framework theory. I explore and interpret the significance of the examined texts and materials, attempting to explain their context, background, and meaning. With the help of the theory, I explain the context. Through qualitative document analysis, my ambition is to explore and interpret the significance of the possible reasons that exist or existed and to try to explain their context and meaning to avoid a referendum on such a significant issue as membership in NATO.
