Vad händer här och vad förväntas av mig nu? : En studie om hur vi människor tolkar vår omgivning och hur miljön ständigt kommunicerar med oss.

Sammanfattning: We live constantly within our surroundings, even if we're not consciously aware of them, our surroundings always affect our behavior. With our senses continually guiding us, we subconsciously make decisions and choose paths to reach our goals. There are a lot of factors which affect these decisions, spatial communication is one of them. The purpose of this study is not only to gain more knowledge of how a spatial designer can create something that we can understand, it also seeks to explain the fundamentals of creating event environments which is meaningful and comprehensive to an ordinary audience. In addition to that, it also attempts to explain how we can create congenial environments where the content reflects its purpose, role and context in order for us to achieve a relaxed and positive atmosphere for the audience. This in turn should help an audience to have a more positive experience, providing them with clear choices and an understanding of what's actually happening in the environment they're in, and what's to be expected of them at the event.   Through consideration of people's cognitive, functional and emotional needs right from the early planning stages, this study was able to bring forth suggestions of how to apply coherent solutions and congenial situations. With the abstract guidelines of the assignment in mind, it helped to achieve concrete design choices for the environmental design, i.e. which colors, shapes and materials were to be used. In using these guidelines from the start, it allowed the study to have clear rules to follow. Through qualityative methods it was possible to build a framework which ensures the event environment correlates with the audiences needs and expectations. Through studying different theories and using knowledge and experiences of my own, it was possible to use that framework to support concrete design choices. In doing so, it was then possible to achieve a coherent wayfinding solution and to improve the audience’s impression of the environment by allowing it to interplay meaningfully with the spatial course of the event, which in turn should lead to the desired relaxed and positive atmosphere.
