  1. 1. A 2D Electrical Resistivity Survey of Palsas in Tavvavuoma, sub-arctic Sweden

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Luft-, vatten- och landskapslära

    Författare :Per Marklund; [2014]
    Nyckelord :Palsas; permafrost; peat plateaus; resistivity; ert; geophysics; Tavvavuoma; Palsar; permafrost; torvplatåer; resistivitet; ert; geofysik; Tavvavuoma;

    Sammanfattning : Electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) is a commonly used geophysical method to investigate permafrost in the mountain environment, but few studies have employed this method in a permafrost affected peatland. For this thesis, 5 ERT profiles were measured over 17 palsas and peat-plateaus in a palsa peatland environment in Tavvavuoma, northern Sweden, where the primary aim was to investigate the depth to the base of permafrost under the mounds. 2. 2. Object-Based Classification of Vegetation at Stordalen Mire near Abisko by using High-Resolution Aerial Imagery

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Marco Giljum; [2014]
    Nyckelord :Physical Geography and Ecosystem Analysis; Object-Based Image Analysis; OBIA; Vegetation Classification; Permafrost; Arctic Peatland; Remote Sensing; Aerial Photography; Environmental Monitoring; Landscape Analysis; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The focus of this work is to investigate and apply the remote sensing method of object-based image analysis (OBIA) for vegetation classification of a permafrost underlain peatland in sub-arctic Sweden, by using aerial imagery of high resolution. Since the northern landscapes are an important source of naturally stored CH4 and CO2, their contribution to the global carbon cycle is a focus in research about climate change and the global methane exchange. 3. 3. Hydrological carbon transport in the Abiskojokka catchment area : The relationship between soil organic carbon content and dissolved organic carbon concentrations in stream water

    Kandidat-uppsats, Stockholms universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och kvartärgeologi (INK)

    Författare :Pawel Harney; [2014]
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Soils in permafrost regions hold substantial amounts of carbon, much of which has accumulated due to processes that are related to cold temperatures. A warming climate will alter the dynamics governing the fluxes of carbon within a system and consequently the pools of carbon therein. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Subarctic peatlands in a changing climate : greenhouse gas response to experimentally increased snow cover

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Herbert Mbufong Njuabe ; [2011]
    Nyckelord :greenhouse gases; subarctic peatlands; geography; physical geography; climate change; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The rate of change of our climate has been amplified since the industrial revolution and is expected to change even further by the end of this century. Global temperature and precipitation are expected to increase considerably over the next century. These increases are expected to be magnified in the Arctic regions. LÄS MER
