In Sweden, EU’s largest producer of Iron ore, the conflict between the State, indigenous Sámi, and mining industries have caused many controversies over the years, where mining projects repeatedly infringe upon land inhabited by Sámi. The intensive exploitation of resources is increasingly framed as compatible with and necessary to climate change mitigation for the possibility of a low-carbon future, opening new extractive frontiers through a path of ‘green’ extractivism (GE).     Sammanfattning : This paper uses an environmental justice framework which is expanded through decolonial theory to analyse whether the mine permitting process used by the Swedish state does justice to local people’s opinions, perspectives and cultural histories.
