  1. 1. Covert visual attention : An event-related potential study of the N2pc and PD components

    Magister-uppsats, Högskolan i Skövde/Institutionen för biovetenskap

    Författare :Andreas Karske; [2020]
    Nyckelord :N2pc; PD; visual search; attentional capture; attention; event-related potential; cognitive neuroscience;

    Sammanfattning : In the study of covert visual attention, two event-related potential (ERP) components have been identified by earlier research. The N2 posterior contralateral (N2pc) component has been suggested to index the enhancement of attention to a specific lateralized target item. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Emotional attention : A cognitive neuroscience perspective

    Kandidat-uppsats, Högskolan i Skövde/Institutionen för biovetenskap

    Författare :Veronica Carlsson; [2018]
    Nyckelord :emotional attention; orienting attention; visual attention; emotions;

    Sammanfattning : Attention is a cognitive mechanism that guides our perception in order to prioritize the limited resources to the most relevant information while ignoring distracting information. Attention can be voluntarily deployed to stimuli during tasks or goals, or the features of the stimulus can capture our attention either by being salient or being emotionally induced. LÄS MER

  3. 3. When the Siren Sounds : In Search of Acoustic Properties that make an Alarm Signal Effective at Capturing Attention

    Magister-uppsats, Högskolan i Gävle/Miljöpsykologi

    Författare :Tomas Hansson; [2018]
    Nyckelord :Alarm sirens; Steady-state; Changing-state; Temporal deviant; Orienting response;

    Sammanfattning : A functional and effective alarm signal is a critical component of alarm systems designed to alert workers of impending danger. In a previous study (Hansson, 2017) background alarm sirens composed of changing-state sounds with an embedded temporal deviant, produced greater disruption of serial short-term memory than a signal without a deviant. 4. 4. A ringing phone : The distracting effect of ringtones

    Master-uppsats, Högskolan i Gävle/Miljöpsykologi

    Författare :Robin Liljenberg; [2017]
    Nyckelord :Ringtones; Attentional capture; Looming effect; Irrelevant sound; Masking noise; Serial recall;

    Sammanfattning : Ringing phones are common in work space environments in the 21th century and while capturing the attention of the call-taker they also tend to disrupt people in the surrounding environment. This study aims to investigate the attentional capturing effect of ringtones by comparing sudden and increasing onsets with quiet and noise masking conditions while participants undertook a test of short-term memory for serial order (serial recall). 5. 5. Attentional capture by a looming ringtone

    Master-uppsats, Högskolan i Gävle/Miljöpsykologi

    Författare :Robin Liljenberg; [2017]
    Nyckelord :Ringtones; Attentional capture; Looming effect; Irrational sound; Masking noise; Serial recall; Error management;

    Sammanfattning : Ringtones are a common distracting sound in modern workspaces. In an earlierexperiment, ringtones increasing in volume (looming) produced greater attentional capture effectin the context of serial short-term memory, than ringtones with sudden onsets that decreased involume (receding).
