  1. 16. The Effects of Probiotics on High Sugar-Induced Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Symptoms in Drosophila melanogaster

    Kandidat-uppsats, Högskolan i Skövde/Institutionen för hälsa och lärande

    Författare :Yasser Al-Ghamdi; [2019]
    Nyckelord :Diabetes; Biomedicine; PEPCK; FOXO; Fbp; Hex-t1; Zw; Drosophila; Melanogaster; Longevity; Probiotics;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by the rise of fasting plasma glucose from its normal range (≥125mg/dl). It is marked by insufficient production of insulin from pancreatic β-cells as a result of failed compensation due to insulin resistance. LÄS MER

  2. 17. A PCOS-like Drosophila Melanogaster model

    Kandidat-uppsats, Högskolan i Skövde/Institutionen för hälsa och lärande; Högskolan i Skövde/Institutionen för hälsovetenskaper

    Författare :Aisha Badji; [2019]
    Nyckelord :polycystic; ovary; syndrome; testosterone; drosophila; melanogaster;

    Sammanfattning : Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a female endocrine disorder defined by high androgen levels and presence of polycystic ovaries. PCOS is characterized by menstrual irregularities, anovulation, infertility, hyperandrogenism, insulin resistance, abdominal obesity, chronic inflammation and increased hair growth. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Bioinformatic approaches for detecting homologous genes in the genomes of non-model organisms : A case study of wing development genes in insect genomes

    Uppsats för yrkesexamina på avancerad nivå, Uppsala universitet/Evolutionsbiologi

    Författare :Lauri Mesilaakso; [2019]
    Nyckelord :bioinformatics; homology detection; exonerate; BLAST; non-model organisms; homologous genes; wing development genes;

    Sammanfattning : Identifying homologous genes, that is genes from a common ancestor, is important in comparative genomic studies for understanding gene annotation and the predicted function of a gene. Several pieces of software, of which the most well-known is BLAST, have been developed for identifying homologues, but this can be challenging in non-model organisms where sometimes poor quality of genome assemblies and lack of annotation make it difficult to robustly identify homologues. 4. 19. Polycystic ovary syndrome : A Drosophila Melanogaster Melanogaster disease model induced by DHT and/or high sugar diet

    Kandidat-uppsats, Högskolan i Skövde/Institutionen för hälsa och lärande

    Författare :Andreas Mlekov Andersson; [2019]
    Nyckelord :Polycystic ovary syndrome; PCOS; DHT; high sugar diet; drosophila melanogaster;

    Sammanfattning : Polycystic ovary syndrome is an endocrine disorder with symptoms of hyperandrogenism, insulin-resistance and anovulation in women which creates a disposition for other disorders, like Type 2 Diabetes. Drosophila Melanogaster flies have short generation, low cost-management and share several signaling pathways with humans and are therefore an excellent tools to study disease aetiology – yet no such model exists for PCOS. 5. 20. Drosophila model of myosin myopathy rescued by overexpression of a TRIM-protein family member

    Kandidat-uppsats, Högskolan i Skövde/Institutionen för hälsa och lärande

    Författare :Sepideh Najmabadi; [2019]
    Nyckelord :Laing distal myopathy; Drosophila melanogaster; MuRF1;

    Sammanfattning : Laing distal myopathy is inherited in an autosomal dominant manner usually before the age of five that initially involves the dorsiflexion in the ankles’ and in big toes to the finger extensors. Weakness of the flexor muscles in the neck is seen in most affected individuals and mild facial weakness is also often present. LÄS MER
