  1. 1. The effects of sector free allowances & emissions on stock returns : A study on firms which partake in the EU emissions trading system

    Magister-uppsats, Linnéuniversitetet/Institutionen för nationalekonomi och statistik (NS)

    Författare :Mario Milic; Noah Stjernberg; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Stock returns; EU ETS; CO2 Emissions; Financial performance; Free allowances;

    Sammanfattning : This study aims to investigate whether sectorial free allowances and sector emissions have any effect on a firm's stock return under the newly introduced EU ETS (Emission trading system). In doing so, the data have been structured as panel data and are gathered for a sample period of 10 years measuring from 2012-2021, looking at 6 sectors (Aviation, Combustion of fuels, refining of mineral oil, production of cardboard/ paper, production of pig iron and steel and production of bulk chemicals). 2. 2. Has the EU ETS been efficient in reducing carbon dioxide emissions without harming firm revenue?

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Ekonomisk-historiska institutionen

    Författare :Elin Raab; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Social Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The increasing urgency of climate change has raised the need for effective climate policy. The European Union emissions trading system (EU ETS) is the world’s first and largest ‘cap and trade’ policy which aims at reducing carbon dioxide emissions at the most cost-efficient allocation. 3. 3. Dirty Stock Returns in the Era of Sustainability: A Study of the World's Largest Carbon Market

    C-uppsats, Handelshögskolan i Stockholm/Institutionen för finansiell ekonomi

    Författare :Forbes Goldman; Hugo Schmidt; [2020]
    Nyckelord :European Union Emissions Trading System; Carbon Emission Allowances; Carbon Risk; Environmental Regulation;

    Sammanfattning : Using a dataset on the stock returns of 65 German firms, this thesis empirically analyses the effect of the European Union Emissions Trading System on the biggest economy and carbon market in Europe. We conclude that the different allocation methods have resulted in large discrepancies in stock performance for the firms reporting under the ETS. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Hur bör koldioxidläckage förebyggas i EU ETS?

    Kandidat-uppsats, Umeå universitet/Statsvetenskapliga institutionen

    Författare :Micaela Danielsson; [2020]
    Nyckelord :Carbon leakage; Emission trading; EU ETS; External effects; Border carbon adjustment; Koldioxidläckage; Utsläppshandel; EU ETS; Externa effekter; Klimattull;

    Sammanfattning : Carbon leakage occurs when globally exposed industries face increased costs, for instance due to stricter climatic policies, while other industries on the global market are not. Although the intention of stricter climate requirements is good, they risk having the opposite effect, as emissions are moved from one country to another. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Addressing climate change through unilateral action: The implications of adopting a European Union-wide Border Carbon Adjustment

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/LUCSUS

    Författare :Egle Kareckaite; [2020]
    Nyckelord :carbon border tax; carbon leakage; carbon pricing; World Trade Organisation; common but differentiated responsibilities; market mechanism; Social Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : In the European Union’s (EU) Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), free allocation of emissions allowances to avoid carbon leakage has resulted in a distorted pricing signal and a failure to reduce emissions in the most polluting industries. A Border Carbon Adjustment (BCA), a mechanism which would apply a tariff to imported goods based on their embedded carbon content, has been suggested as a solution. LÄS MER
