11. Stellar Encounters at the Galactic Centre
Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisationSammanfattning : Using methods of smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) an N -body simulation was set-up to investigate stellar encounters between a 1 solar-mass main sequence (MS) star, modeled after the Sun, and a 0.6 solar-mass white dwarf (WD). This was done primarily to investigate the assumptions made by Mastrobuono-Battisti et al. LÄS MER
12. The retention of black holes in globular clusters
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation; Lunds universitet/Institutionen för astronomi och teoretisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisationSammanfattning : We simulate the velocities of formed Black Holes to determine the fraction of retained Black Holes in 152 Globular Clusters. The model we used for the escape velocity is from Plummer. The scenarios of the natal kick are Neutronstar like kicks and momentum conserving kicks. LÄS MER
13. Observing stellar streams made in a supercomputer
Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisationSammanfattning : Stellar streams are made of stars that originate from globular clusters or dwarf satellite galaxies that have been disturbed by the gravitational pull from the galaxy they orbit. These stellar streams hold information about the history of the progenitor as well as information about the gravitational potential of the host galaxy. LÄS MER
14. Dark Matter – Direct Detection and Capture in the Sun
Master-uppsats, KTH/FysikSammanfattning : Dark matter has been inferred from various observations such as in galaxy clusters, flat galactic rotation curves, gravitational lensing measurements and the cosmic microwave background. Despite overwhelming observational evidence and ongoing searches, a clear signal of dark matter has not yet been detected. LÄS MER
15. The Largest Void and Cluster in Non-Standard Cosmology
L3-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Teoretisk astrofysikSammanfattning : We employ observational data about the largest cosmic void and most massive galaxy cluster known to date, the 'Cold Spot' void and the 'El Gordo' cluster, in order to constrain the parameter |fR0| from the f(R) gravity formulation by Hu and Sawicki and the matter power spectrum normalization at present time, σ8. We obtain the marginalized posterior distribution for these two parameters through a Markov Chain Monte Carlo analysis, where the likelihood function is modeled through extreme value statistics.
