21. Can tidal interactions produce MGC1?
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation; Lunds universitet/Institutionen för astronomi och teoretisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisationSammanfattning : The globular cluster population of large spiral galaxies can be divided into two populations: one population which formed in-situ and one which has been assembled through capture of clusters that have been tidally stripped away from other galaxies during close encounters or mergers. In this work, I focus on the globular cluster MGC1, which is orbiting the M31 galaxy. LÄS MER
22. Feasibility of new Dark Matter search at ATLAS
Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysikSammanfattning : This thesis examines the idea of calibrating Level 1 jets. These are used in the Trigger-Level Analysis at the ATLAS in the search for a new mediator, in this case between Standard Model and Dark Matter particles. In the thesis, the idea to calibrate the Level 1 jets is investigated. LÄS MER
23. Summarising Constraints On Dark Matter At The Large Hadron Collider
Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen; Lunds universitet/Partikel- och kärnfysikSammanfattning : Dark matter is estimated to make up around 25% of the Universe, but it is not known what dark matter is. In particle physics, mediators of dark matter are used to model interactions of dark matter particles with known particles (Standard Model particles). LÄS MER
24. The consequences of dwarf galaxies colliding with the Milky Way
Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för astronomi och teoretisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation; Lunds universitet/Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisationSammanfattning : I simulate the collision of satellite galaxies with the Milky Way and observe the effects that this has on the orbits of the globular cluster populations within both the Milky Way and the satellite galaxies. This is done in order to investigate whether some of the Milky Way's globular clusters could have been donated from satellite galaxies which have been tidally stripped, since it is believed that the Sagittarius dwarf spheroidal galaxy is being tidally disrupted and that some of its globular clusters have been tidally stripped from it (such as Pal 12 and NGC 4147). 25. Inquiries into the absence of extended globular clusters in the Milky Way galaxy
Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisationSammanfattning : Thirteen stellar objects known as extended globular clusters were found in the Halo of the Andromeda Galaxy. Three of these extended clusters have quantitative properties which are subsequently used to determine whether clusters of extended size could survive in the orbits of the Milky Way Galaxy. LÄS MER
